How Often Should You Get a Massage?

How Often Should You Get a Massage?

Once a month? Every fortnight? Once a year for a treat? The right frequency depends on what you're trying to achieve. Here's our guide to massage frequency.

We're always striving to keep as many people as we can happy, healthy and well. Of course, our niche in this — one of many health and wellbeing initiatives — is by providing a variety of therapeutic massage techniques to offer wellbeing solutions suited to each individual. It's a tough task, but we've got the training and experience to make it a reality for our clients. But it's important to remember that massages are treatments, not cures.

Swedish, Deep-Tissue and Sports Massage

These treatments — Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and sports massage — can improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, relieve stress and increase mobility. They're particularly designed for a hybrid massage and physiotherapy experience that is perfect for those who may suffer from chronic pain conditions, or are looking to heal after a sports injury. Also, partly due to the greater strength of your cardiovascular system, they can improve your immune system as well.

For the treatment of injuries, as well as those who regularly exert themselves through sport or exercise, we'd recommend a treatment weekly or bi-weekly. For other patients looking for the general benefits, a bi-weekly or monthly session is usually enough to get you through the following month while enjoying physiological wellbeing.

Back Massage and Holistic Treatments

Generalised back massages can be for chronic pain, or just to take some time out to refresh, revitalise and enjoy the curative properties of expert therapists. How often you choose to enjoy the experience and the effects is, of course, down to you, but some factors of your decision to visit will be your stress level, whether you have back or joint pain (or you do, and it's getting worse), and how massage fits into your wellness routine.

Your massage therapist will be able to advise you impartially. It could be bi-weekly, bi-monthly, or anything in between. We work on the (undeniably true) fact that everyone is different and has broadly different needs. Don't be shy to ask for generalised advice when you meet your therapist, or even when you chat to us on the phone.

The Low-Down

For predominantly physical ailments — joint pain, injury or cardiovascular or immune issues — we recommend at least a bi-weekly treatment.

For generalised wellbeing, anything from a weekly to bi-monthly treatment may be suitable, depending on your specific needs.
