The purpose of Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is to identify and prevent imbalanced areas of mobility, stability, strength or neuromuscular control within individuals that plan to or are currently partaking in physical activity that involves the lower limbs. This is achieved by performing and analysing a set of function movements that include ones Gait, Squat, Lunge, Rotary Stability and Flexibility. By analysing these movements, it will help pinpoint functional deficits that can be improved and treated to help prevent current and future injuries by restoring movements to show a healthy biomechanical function.
The FMS will compromise of the initial assessments, followed by the most suitable treatment, this will include a Sports Massage and then possibly Joint Mobilisations depending if the joints themselves are painful/restricted. The final stage would be to run through corrective exercises and self treatment techniques.
